"It's hard to say what cancer invaded which organ first in our culture. It can't be denied that as we've allowed it to fester for so long the spread has reached all parts and pieces. Can it be excised?”
Metastatic! explores the representation and definition of malignancy in our culture in an attempt to push back against it. Blending expressive abstraction with bits of language and contemporary cultural imagery, Borrman presents a chaotic cultural landscape that is, simply put, sick. And only getting sicker. Its frailty is matched only by its frenetic movements towards other parts of our collective body. The problem metastasizes. The problem becomes greater. The problem has flesh. Kushner stained his sofa. Pruitt gushes black liquid. Mnuchin’s treasury is a burning house, still in shadow. The word AWFUL hangs above a raging river valley. Our bald eagle, can he even still fly?
As always with Borrman, a percentage of all proceeds from Metastatic! will go to funding a social justice organization of the artist's choosing. This time Borrman has chosen the Equal Justice Initiative. In a legal system that seems mostly to serve the corporate agenda at the expense of real citizens, Borrman chooses to support the Equal Justice Initiative for their efforts to end mass incarceration, excessive punishment, racial and economic injustice and to protect the basic rights of the most vulnerable Americans.
All works sold will be split equally three ways:
33% goes to the equal justice initiative.
33% to the gallery
33% to the artist
All future resales will be split between the seller, their agent and the EJI.
As value accrues around the work the amount the EJI sees increases with each point of exchange.
Borrman currently has work on view in the Whitney Biennial with Occupy Musuems.
